Evaluation 2 - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

When we were designing our own digipak and magazine advert we decided that we should get some ideas from similar type of music artists as ours which was country music.
So we had a look at examples of Taylor swifts and Ellie Goulding's digipaks;

we had look at these to get some ideas to produce our own digipak, my digipak

We also had a look at some magazine adverts

Evaluation Question 3 -What have you learned from your audience feedback?

With all the feedback I have collected I have come to a conclusion that my most attracted audience with my music video was females, this may be because as women are more expressive and nurturing then men they get more emotional and may feel more emotion whilst watching my music video. I have learnt that the more shots/scenes of different locations the more interesting the video will be, so for future reference i will know how to improve my video.

Evaluation Question - 4 How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Day 5 - Filming

I really wanted to capture a scene where me and the boy were doing daily things together but the less obvious ones, such as in school routines together. So i had to get permission of my teacher if we were allowed to use the lab equipment and dress up. This i believe is a really effective scene because it truly shows how close they were even at school times.

Day 4 - Filming

it is early January and we have almost completed filming, however we noticed that there was no range of different scenes for Gabrieles singing part. So me and Gabriele decided to film at a drama studio. This was perfect for our music video because it really looked professional and not very amateur. Here we filmed many different types of shots with Gabriele , we had to make sure that the lightening was correct so there were no shadows in the background.

Day 3 -Filming

It is December 29th and we are filming another park scene, even though we have already filmed at the park, however this time i am filming Gabriele singing to the lyrics of the song at the same time she is also palying the guitar.

Day 2 - Filming

27th of December i decided that we should do some filiming, however it was indoors mainly due to the weather not being so good, so we still used our time effectively and productively. We filmed the 'house scene' where the couple are playing XBOX  and arguing. We was reallly able to capture great shots at home, we placed the tripod and steady cam in many places to get different angel shots. The only issue which occurred was that the filming here took a long time to shoot, and this merrily was my fault because i kept on laughing when trying to be serious in the argument scene , so this led us to re-start our filming

Day 1 - Filming

On the 23rd , me and gabriele went to film our first piece of footage, we filmed at central park Dagenham. We took different shots and different scenes at the park ;
- walking scene
- on a obstacle
- taking a picture together scene
We had to film each scene two times one consisting of both of us then the other if just me repeating the footage but on my own. This was so when it came to editing it would look better and it will be easier to edit the guy fading.

Audience theory - The uses and Gratificator

Many people question whether these are true since many people watch violent texts but don't appear to be influenced by them. This theory elaborates on the reasons as to why people consume media and what they want to gain from it. Gratifications model, the audience are active when they watch media texts  because when the watch it they use the text and are not used by it. When the audience use the text they use it for their own gratification or pleasure. They are not helpless, they watch these types of texts because they like it and may possibly want to gain something from it.
The audience can use media texts to gratify needs for:
- Information
- Diversion
-Pleasure
-escapism
- sexual stimulation
-comparing relationships & lifestyles

Since the audience are now in control, consumption of the media therefore, helps those with issues such as:
-Learning
-Relaxation
-Emotional satisfaction
- Issues of personal identity
- Issues of social identity
- Issues of aggression and violence

The theory suggests that the consumption of violent images might even be helpful rather than harmful since, the audience act out their violent impulses through the consumption of media violence. The audiences inclination towards violence is sublimated therefore, they would be less likely to commit violent actions.

This theory can be related to my music video because the audience may really want to watch sad music videos because they enjoy it because they don't get upset about it or it makes them feel better about their selves.

Audience theory - Reception theory

Developed by Start Hall at Birmingham University in the 1970's. This theory is about when a producer constructs a text it is encoded with a meaning or message that the producer wishes to convey to the audience. The audiences will correctly decode the message or meaning and understand what the producer was trying to say. However the audience may sometimes reject or fail to correctly understand the message.
Hall identified 3 types of audience readings of the text:

  • Dominant or preferred
  • Negotiated
  • Oppositional
Dominant
  • This is when the audience decodes the message how the producer wants them to , so they feed into the rpoduceers message that they're trying to portray.
e.g. in my music video the response I wanted the audience to have was to feel emotional , as my video was fairly touching to the heart about a couple , and the guy passing away.

Negotiated
  • This is where the audience accepts, rejects or refines elements of the text in light of previously held viewers.

Oppositional
  • this is when the dominant most important meaning is recognized but rejected for cultural, political or ideological reasons.

Audience Theory - the effects model theory

The Effects Model

Media effect theory is how media is able to affect and how it does affect society. The consumption of media texts has an effect and influence on the audience, this is usually considered as a negative effect. Audiences are passive and powerless to prevent the influence.
this model can also been called THE HYPODERMIC MODEL this is because the model is like a syringe which the messages in media text are injected into the audience by powerful media.

this effects model also relates to my music video i produced because it has influenced my audience which are; young teenage girls who are upset with relationships in their life and are grieving.

Another favorite music analyis

One of my favorite  music videos is Shine Ya Light by Rita Ora  . It strikes me as a very inspiring and close-to-the-heart video and many emotions come to me while it is playing . My favorite part , and practically the whole music video, is when Rita Ora visits her home town in Prishtina , Kosovo. Everyone is happy to see her and the only way I can describe it is as warm and cosy . It is such a bright and happy atmosphere . Then also I believe strongly that this video has an important message: that wherever you end up in life or however far you get you must not forget the people that helped you get where you are. This video works well because it was filmed when Rita Ora was at a high peak in her music career so it seemed fitting for her to go back home and film where she is with all her family .

And also by shine your light she means that wherever you are , a tiny town or a shining city you should just let your talent gleam and be exposed for the world to enjoy and to see . This song is all about being the best and keeping everyone together with a love of music. This just makes me realize everybody is blessed and we should all show and reveal our talent .Whether that be singing , dancing or painting . This is why I truly believe that the music video is very effective to the audience, it gives out a meaningful message.

Our Magazine Cover

My magazine cover analysis

In order to achieve this final finished magazine cover, I used photoshop to get everything together.
I have edited the picture of Gabriele , so she stands out but not too much focus on her so the audience can focus on the details of her Album.
I have chosen the font and colour of it very carefully in order for it to stand out, this was because my background colour where the titles where meant to be placed is dark.
At the bottom of the magazine cover i have placed icons to alert the audience on how they are able to access the music i.e hmv or can be downloaded online.

Audience theory - Cultivation theory

George Gerbner ; The Cultivation Theory
This theory is a more refined version of the hypodermic needle because it says that if people watch the same sort of text then it will desensitize them.
It's said that the only way the audiences social attitude will change is by watching the same sort of text numerous of times. The audiences attitudes are controlled and shaped by what they watch on the tv.

This can relate to my music video because the audience can may be upset at first when they watch it, though, as they get used to watching my music video numerous of times, they'll get used to the emotion and won't be upset anymore, they'll only pay attention to the music.

Costumes

Throughout our music video we have used different costumes;

I decided that she wore a bright dress because firstly, the scenery is too dark and she will stand out.
Secondly, Rachel Rhodes in her music video also wears a summer dress, so i thought to make my music video less amateur i got ideas from her music video.
Thirdly, as the song is sad about a girl reminiscing about memories with her partner, i have decided that the girl who is grieving should wear the dull clothes have let the girl, as shown down below..

Through out my music video the singer has two looks, a very summery look and also a winter look.

Digipak Template

Digipaks + effectiveness

What is a Digipak?
Digipaks are a types of CD cases they tend to be made of less plastic nowadays they are maent to replace the standard jewel case which was not very environmentally friendly. They are ised for CD singles pr special editions of CD albums. Digipaks consist of a book style outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD/DVD.

How Digipaks benefit artists
The front of the digipak will have some aspect of what th artist represents and what their genre is.The digipak will mostlikely embody and theme and a message about the artist image.
.Digipaks benefit the artist and their music as its promotional aspect ofthe music industry which helps bring awareness to the artist thus sellingthe artist and encouraging consumers to buy and listen to their music.
